The fourth stop of the Dew Tour went down in Salt Lake City, Utah but it might has well been Chicago because it was a windy city. SRH riders James Foster, Josh Hult and Colton Satterfield had a fight against the elements as well as the rest of the field of bmx dirt riders.
The guys all did well in the Prelims on Thursday. There were thirty riders battling for the top nine spots and there were hammers being dropped left and right. Josh qualified 9th, Colton qualified 5th and James qualified 2nd. The finals were stacked with SRH riders and was shaping up to be insane!
On Saturday, the wind decided to rear its ugly head and tried to put a damper on the contest. Event organizers held a meeting with the athletes a few minutes before finals and took a vote to decide whether they should run it. Everyone agreed to give it a go and they only had a couple minutes of practice until the TV cameras went live and it was time to see who had what it took to overcome the elements.
Everyone was having issues during their runs. The wind would let up once in a while for a coupe of minutes and those who were fortunate enough to catch that break were able to throw down their runs. The rest were blown off course and crashed hard. Both Colton and Josh had a tremendous amount of difficulty sticking their runs due to the wind. They finished out at 11th and 12th place.
Foster also struggled with the wind but was able to pull a trick that has never been attempted or done in a contest. He threw a back trailer to down whip which is a 360 to barspin one way, barspin back the other way and a downside tailwhip. There were four different things happening all at the same time! The trick wasn’t good enough to take home with the win but he astounded the crowd, athletes and the judges. James ended up with 6th place. All three will be heading to the Dew Tour finals next month in Las Vegas, Nevada. Hopefully the weather will be more cooperative!
