SOME of Australia’s best Freestyle Motocross riders are on their way for an unforgettable show on the Coffs Coast.
The hype is building for Project FMX – a Freestyle Motocross competition unlike any other – that will be hosted at Sandy Beach this January.
Now confirmed to compete are Crusty Demon king Matt Schubring, Nitro Circus star Michael ‘Chucky’ Norris, professional MX/SX racer and FMX legend Robbie Marshall, Kain Saul – the only rider to ever back flip a Harley Davidson off a 40ft ramp and OG Australian FMX star Leigh Harriman.
Also hot on the line up is Crusty Demon regulars Joel Balchin and Rhys Hillier, The combo king AKA Steve Mini, new Red Bull X Fighter recruits Clinton Moore and Josh Sheehan, 08 RFD champ Steve Sommerfeld and local legends Daniel Hall and Jake Bowen.
FMX fans will have the chance to be there as these riders are pitted against one another in four formats: Speed and Style, Freestyle Motocross, Best Trick and Best Whip.
The event is the brainchild of local FMX legend Michael Hall.
“Right now, there is no competition run in this format,” Michael said.
“This isn’t your every-day FMX competition. We wanted to give riders an opportunity to showcase all their bike skills, so we came up with Project FMX.”
This means not only will you see the best tricks these guys have; you’ll also be able to check out their bike handling skills as they race around a purpose-built Supercross style track with ramps included.
“We invited the country’s top riders who are all really excited and the competition will be world-class. You’ll see the best riding these boys have to offer.”
Each rider will compete in each of the four categories during the day of competition, with all scores to be tallied to reveal overall placings at the end of the day. The winners will share in $10,000 prize money.
Head judge on the day will be Grant ‘Goba’ O’Brien, who has experience judging the best at Red Bull X Fighters. Joining him on the panel will be FMX expert Cam ‘Sturto’ Sturtridge, with a third judge to be announced in coming weeks.
“Project FMX is about giving Australian guys a chance to show exactly what they’ve got and for their fans to see just how good they really are,” Michael said. “This is a first for the Coffs Coast with huge potential to put the town on the map in the FMX world. You don’t want to miss it.”
Project FMX will be held at a specially built compound on Johnsons Road in Sandy Beach on January 15, 2011 and is an all-age event. No glass.
