SRH Fam: Jack Murphy Competes in the 2018 Belmar Pro
Our brother Jack Murphy, a New Jersey surfing legend, competed in the 2018 Belmar Pro over the weekend, and gives us a recap of his experience.
This was my 13th year doing the Belmar Pro. SRH has sponsored the event almost ever year since 2008. Well, the 2018 event was pretty rad. Surf was chunky onshore, with tough conditions, but very contestable.
I had a really good run, winning my Semi Finals heat and pushed right to the Finals. I was winning the heat until the 1 minute, 30 second mark. My competitor scored a high 6. Now needing a 7, with 30 seconds left, I gave a last effort on a left and came up short, with a 5.98 -- one point shy of the win.
Overall, I'm very stoked and proud of my results. 2nd place overall. I've been surfing my whole life and have done over 500 events. SURFING for SRH since 1992, Kevin Zinger has always had my back, each and every event. Huge thank you to SRH and the Belmar Pro and to everyone who came down to support me.
